B-wom for Good Health & Gender Equality

International Women’s Day is a commemorative day adopted by the UN in 1975, in the midst of the industrial revolution, to claim the struggle of women to participate in society in equality with men. Nowadays is a day to celebrate the social, economic, political and cultural role of women in society, but also to claim and denounce pending issues, such as gender equality, women’s health rights or gender violence.

These are some of the causes that have moved the UN to launch in 2016 a new program of goals for all countries and people to improve our lives and our planet: SDG’s or Sustainable Development Goals.

Our mission in B-wom is the empowerment of women in society through technology and health knowledge, so it is an honor for us to officially support these goals, especially Good Health and Wellbeing and Gender Equality.

We want to create a positive impact on society and this is our way of doing so: giving women the tools to take care of their health, breaking taboos about women’s health, and raising awareness about the nature of our bodies and their changes, which in many cases are the source of inequality in the working environment.

We have seen women who quit leadership positions after being mothers due to problems of urinary incontinence. Women who don’t dare to ask for help to overcome health problems that limit their social life. And on the other side: women who have regained their confidence thanks to recovering from intimate health problems, and women who have improved their productivity and social position thanks to an increase in self-esteem after overcoming these problems.

This is the area for which we have started empowering women in society. A hidden problem that has a real impact on women’s lives. And that is necessary to know and resolve to reach the total equality of women in society.

Iconic Power Couples: ICON & B-wom

 

Ahhh Valentine’s Day, a treasured time of feeling like it’s socially acceptable to half-eat a dozen truffles and chocolates out of a bright read heart-shaped box (btw, am I the only one who hates the pink nougat mystery filling…anyone with me? anyone??). Speaking of divisive, we def know how polarizing V-Day can be in general. Some live for February 14th to roll around so they can enjoy that super economical pre-fixe lobster special with their beloved boo. Some despise how forced the whole day can feel and would rather hang out with their cat, eat stale popcorn, and binge-watch Scandal. We totally get it.

But, truth be told, there’s an essence of V-Day we’re totally down to support and it’s the intention to celebrate all kinds of love! We’re not just talking romance, here. Even though the classic show was centered around Lucy and and Rick’s marriage, I’m pretty sure we can all agree that Lucy and Ethel’s escapades delivered the most gut-busting laughs. It takes a special kind of bond to inhale and hide chocolates in swift unison.

 

Amal Alamuddin & George Clooney

Amal Alamuddin—the Lebanese-British internationally celebrated human rights lawyer—first met George Clooney (I believe he does some sort of acting? maybe seen him in a few movies?) in Florence, Italy. When the couple got hitched in 2014, they agreed to sell their wedding pictures to People Magazine and Hello Magazine. But instead of pocketing the millions earned from their stunning shots, the couple donated the moolah to several human rights charities with a big chunk of the earnings going to Satellite Sentinel Project, an org that monitors the movements of militant gangs in Sudan. Philanthropic power partners, indeed.

 

Venus & Serena

We can’t get enough of this sisterly love. As amazing as their tennis accolades and business achievements are, it’s the relationship between Venus and Serena that is most outstanding. These superstar sisters, who are constantly competing with each other, have a beautiful bond that is unbreakable. Serena recently wrote in a sentimental Instagram post, “There’s nothing I would not do for this brave inspirational woman @venuswilliams how fortunate I am to have u as my sister.”

 

Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka

Actors Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka are no strangers to the parent/work juggle. While raising their 5-year-old twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace, the couple have never compromised their family time for their careers or vice versa. Their secret? NPH says it boils down to “having each other’s back, and I’m just amazed at the human being that he is. He’s an amazing dad.” Did you know that the cute couple were together an entire decade before walking down the aisle 3 years ago? ️‍

When Ellen was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom last year, Obama expressed that she “has shown us that a single individual can make the world a more fun, more open, more loving place so long as we just keep swimming.” And seven years ago, after California Supreme Court overruled the ban on same-sex marriage, Ellen wanted to share that fun, love, and openness to swim through life with her partner and Scandal actress, Portia de Rossi.

 

Barack & Michelle Obama

The love-radiating couple first met at the Chicago law firm Sidley Austin, when Barack was working as a summer associate and Michelle was his adviser. That’s right, behind every successful man, there is a strong, wise and hardworking woman, and Barack will be first to tell you. “Michelle is a tremendously strong person, and has a very strong sense of herself and who she is and where she comes from. If you’re like most women, you’ve probably at least heard of Kegels. But did you know that they are for more than preventing bladder leaks? It’s true! In the mid-1940’s, Dr. Arnold Kegel developed an exercise to help women who were experiencing urinary continence. Many women who tried this exercise found that, in addition to having better control over their bladders, they were also experiencing better sex.
